Native Azalea Day

Visit the gardens this spring for Native Azalea Day, an invitation to celebrate and experience azaleas through the eyes of plant enthusiasts, botanists, and artists. In partnership with the Mountain Science Exposition, Native Azalea Day plans to bring even more excitement in its third year! For one day only, visitors can observe as plein air artists capture the scene in paint and pen, learn about the garden and its collection on a walking tour, and participate in hands-on activities for children and adults.

A shuttle to the Collection will be available between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., departing to and from the Baker Visitor Center throughout the event. Visitors are also welcome to walk to the Native Azalea Collection from the Gatehouse Parking Lot using Old Mill Road to Bent Creek Road, or can park at the Baker Visitor Center and walk down Running Cedar Road to Bent Creek Road. Walkers should be prepared to travel one mile over unpaved roads and paths.

Memorial Day Train Ride

Enjoy a 7-mile round trip open-air trolley ride while experiencing amazing mountain and river views!

We’ll stop at Woodfin’s Silverline park.  The ride lasts approximately one hour and 25 minutes. There have been many changes to our right of way since September 27, when Hurricane Helene hit Western NC.  In spite of all the devastation ,  there are still beautiful views going over the mountain and by the French Broad river.  You can also tour our historic railroad equipment before or after the trip. Spend a couple of hours with your friends and family making memories to last a lifetime!

Stroller Revolution Walk at Night

Remaining active or restarting activity are often a struggle in late pregnancy and the early postpartum period. Parent-to-Parent connection is the most ancient and trusted way for people to successfully ease their transition into parenthood. Join other parents and caregivers in this fun and functional workout group aimed at getting and keeping you moving, loving your body as it is, and connecting with one another.

This event is intended for the whole family unit to come.

We meet at 4:30pm at New Belgium and walk from New Belgium to the French broad river dog park and back, which is about an hour total walking. For those who want to stay for beverages or food, we will meet on the grass of New Belgium afterwards for more socializing. If you don’t want to do the whole walk, hold down space on the grass where we’ll meet up when we’re done with the walk. The starting point for the walk is outside and in front of the tap room’s main entrance. Be on the lookout for strollers!

Be sure to check the Homegrown Families Community Facebook Group page on Wednesday morning to confirm location and potential weather updates.
