Annual Firefly Gathering

Each summer hundreds of people come together in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina for the Annual Firefly Gathering, one of the largest earthskills gatherings in the country. Skilled instructors, artists, musicians, speakers and thinkers co-create this transformative experience to expand our capacity to live well with one another and our beloved Earth.

There are over 300 hundred diverse classes to choose from and days at the Gathering are spent enjoying nature through plant walks and herbal medicine making, connecting with community as you run into new and old friends off the beautiful Toe River, deepening your relationship with the wisdom and rhythms of nature, and exploring the creative expression within ourselves and others through the craft fair, drum circles, band performances and the annual parade. People of all ages and walks of life are welcome at Firefly, with engaging youth programs and intentional camp options to support the experience of people who identify asPeople of the Global Majority, LGBTQIA+ Communities, Women, Men, and sobriety seekers.

Evenings at the Firefly Gathering are filled with creative expression, as we reconnect and let the learning from the day sink in. Connect with new friends and old while enjoying live music, poetry, stories, and dancing under the stars. For many, attending The Firefly Gathering is a life-changing experience, inspiring them to return year after year.

Join us for the 2025 Firefly Gathering at the Wild Human Preserve in Green Mountain, NC. Visit www.fireflygathering.org/annual for all the details.

2:40p-3:40p– Mindful Forestry with Dr. Dave Ellum
Dr. Dave Ellum, Dean of Land Resources and Professor of Ecological Forestry will present on Mindful Forestry. What are the ethical and philosophical underpinnings of responsible forest stewardship? With a creative range including dreamy vocals and songwriting, eco-feminist hip hop, spoken word poetry, and looped ambient violin tracks, Madelyn hopes to share music as a way of connecting all to the deepest level of self and to others.

3:50p-4:45p– Guided Mindful Forestry on the Tranquility Trail

In the ancient original wisdom of the Mother, the role of each human is to maintain the energetic harmony of the planet, to keep the Earth Mother balanced and serene and therefore healthy. The mighty human spirit has been granted the exquisite gift of this majestic planet and the amazing privilege to care for and keep her with a powerful, pure and loving energy. Join Rene Catano, an ordained caretaker and keeper of the earth in a very special offering to honor and pay tribute to the great Earth Mother, as an act of sacred reciprocity for the blessing of vitality she provides here, in the sacred mountains of Asheville.

ACT Family Photo Day Mini Sessions

This is our FIRST ANNUAL ACT FAMILY DAY PHOTO SHOOT!

Capturing the memories and stopping time for just a moment, immortalizing that joy forever! This is what I LOVE about photography.
It’s true that people don’t often have the time or the funds to plan special photo shoots, but then time just flies on by. And that’s why I am bringing you this special Mini-Session day!! So you can take 10 minutes out of your day, at a fraction of the cost of a whole session, to capture your moment.

This is ALSO a fundraiser for ACT. So come and show your support by booking a session, and $30 of your session goes straight to ACT for scholarships. ACT does so much for our community and this is a great chance to give back.

You get 10 minutes, and have your choice of two photo backdrops. A grey one which is great for groups, couples, or head shots, and then a special kids scene, which is a great setting to capture your little ones. We can accomplish a lot in 10 minutes! And you get 8 fully edited images to keep forever.

So how do you sign up? EASY!
visit https://www.picktime.com/studiomisha
and pick your time slot. Then follow the instructions on my website link
https://www.studiomisha.com/events/2019/3/26/elders-day-mini-sessions-at-act
to fill out your information and pay.
ONLY 36 slots and they will go fast, so sign up ASAP.
Email, message or call me anytime for questions. But please visit the website and FAQ first, in case you find your answer there.

Remember that this makes a great Mother’s Day gift! And also remember that this is all inclusive to all kinds of families, or people who want to cherish their special life moments. Even if it’s you and your dog! Family is family, and we want to celebrate it.

Thank you for celebrating our ACT FAMILY PHOTO DAY!

Open Streets at Folkmoot

What is Open Streets?
Strive Beyond Folkmoot USA, are teaming up to open up Brook Street to walking, biking and healthy movement of all kinds at an Open Streets event. This car-free event invites you to make the street your playground for the day. The fun includes: Bike Skills Rodeo, Live Music, Bike Raffles, Anything-That-Rolls Races, 4-Square and Other Street Games.

What’s the Route?
Brook Street, behind Folkmoot USA will be opened to activities between Virginia Ave. and S. Main St., with additional activities and Marketplace in and around Folkmoot USA.

How do I Get There?
Open Streets is all about active transportation. Bicycle Haywood is leading a family-friendly bike ride from Whole Bloomin Thing to Virginia Ave along a safe 1.5 mile route. The route rolls out at 3pm. And if you prefer to drive, you can park in designated satellite parking areas, all within a 1/4 mile walk of the route.

How can I participate?
Just come out ready for active fun and discovery, Saturday, May 11, 3-8pm. Bring your favorite things that roll… bikes, skates, skateboard, whatever, and discover a lot of fun activities like yoga in the street and chalk art.

Also, we are looking for volunteers and participation partners.

Volunteers simply help setup, tear down, and keep attendees engaged. Participation Partners are clubs, organizations or companies who have an interest in growing active transportation and wellness and who would like to provide information and host a simple activity, game or exercise (we’ll help you think that part through.)

Where do we sign up?
This link is the one-stop signup form for interested participant groups (you can have a table and host an activity), volunteers, and just general interest:
