Ginger the Llama Release Party! (with a REAL llama!)

Have you taken a selfie with a Llama yet? Thursday, April 4, from 5-7 p.m., is your chance! Lightening the Llama will be hanging out on the patio at Asheville Brewing’s Coxe Avenue location. Everyone’s invited to meet Lightening, and if you’re over 21, you can toast Lightening with Asheville Brewing’s new Ginger the Llama Alcoholic Ginger Beer!

This uncomplicated, refreshing ginger beer contains a blend of local Rayburn Farms and Peruvian gingers, both of which impart a subtle spice. The resulting 4.8% ABV elixir is light and crisp enough to help you zip to the top of the Machu Picchu. It’s brewed with love but without gluten.

Llamas roam wild all over the Andes Mountains in Peru, and they are one of the few animals able to live happily at such high altitudes. The bold flavor of Peruvian ginger evokes that same rugged landscape. Numerous Western North Carolina farms and businesses also employ llamas to protect sheep or to serve as pack animals. They also can make loving pets.

As a Llama day special, Ginger the Llama will be $4 per pint on April 4th. Moving forward, every Thursday will be Llama Day at Asheville Brewing, including $4.50 pints of the ginger brew, and 10% off food for gingers (even if it’s out of a bottle) at both the Merrimon and Coxe Avenue locations. Stay tuned for details on a ginger-inspired pizza.

Ginger the Llama is available on tap at your favorite WNC watering hole or restaurant, and the ginger beer soon will be available in cans to take home or on your next llama adventure.

Earth Day Celebration

Celebrate Earth Day with Conservationists that are protecting lands in and around Chimney Rock State Park. Games, crafts, live animals, food, brew, and fun to be had at Blue Ghost Brewing, It is a free event and earn a free kid pass to Chimney Rock.

Kindergarten Camp!

Come to a special Buncombe County Schools’ Kindergarten Camp at Zaniac Wednesday, April 3 while your child is on a School Break! Experience interactive and hands-on science and engineering activities ideal for kindergartners! Come for a half or full day! Snack included. Pack a lunch for all day.

Children’s Yoga with Ruth (4-8yrs)

A child’s experience with yoga can help them focus and center themselves, find balance, coordination, flexibility, strength and an ability to connect more deeply inwards and with others. Every week class will have a theme or a lesson taught through:

Asana/postures,  Music, Storytelling, Games, Relaxation, Meditation, Visualization,  And most important fun

Ages 4-8

Sundays, 2:00-3:00pm   

All of our daily classes are drop-in style and sliding scale.  You can pay $8-$15 for any class on the schedule.  We also offer monthly memberships, class packages, and a new student trial package of $30 for 3 weeks unlimited yoga.

Love Your Mama: Earth Day Workday & Egg Hunt

A big community work day to kick start the season at our Grove Street and the Elder and Sage Gardens downtown (BeLoved is the main community partner of this garden)!

Come out on this Earth Day weekend to be the change! Bring veggies plants, gloves, gardening tools for planting! Bring your carpentry skills and help finish the ramp for friends in wheel chairs to garden at the Elder and Sage Gardens. We will finish the day sharing about our BeLoved Tiny Home Village and the work of Human and Environmental Sustainability for that project and some tiny art making! This is a kid-friendly project!

Meet at 1 pm at BeLoved 39 Grove Street to begin the day working on the Grove Street Gardens! We will have an Easter egg hunt in the garden! We will be moving to the Elder and Sage Garden on Page Ave downtown at 2:30 pm

In the midst of a rapidly gentrifying City, in the midst of the concrete and asphalt, we build gardens . In vacant, broken, and barren spaces, we practice resurrection! In the face of climate change, we work for sustainability. In the midst of food deserts for our elders, we plant food. In the face of a segregated society, we build community!

This 75 minute class will start with a brief meditation/philosophical opening and move into a slow to moderate-paced flow. Intertwining movement with breath, we will open our hearts, create heat in the body, stimulate the brain & rejuvenate our well-being. Postures are always guided to offer modifications and variations to accommodate the very beginner to a long-time practitioner. We will close with savasana/brief meditation.

Limited props are provided(blankets, blocks & straps) on a first-come basis. Some mats will also be available. If you have props/mats, I encourage you to bring them! Please arrive early to allow time to settle and ensure you don’t miss centering(so important in this practice!).

Please leave your fur babies at home, I strive to create a serene class environment with the least amount of distractions. Classes are recommended for children 8+ but younger are welcome to join if they’re able to remain on their mat space(I’ve had children bring head phones or other quiet activities if they lose interest in the class).

We will gather at the east end of Carrier Park in the grass over-looking the river (turn left after coming into main entrance & park far left). Go beyond the picnic shelter just passed the little stream/bushes to the left.
