Gardening Talks for Busy People, Parents & Children of All Ages

Want to get your children to eat more veggies? Strapped for time but still want homegrown, fresh food? Join Rachel Strivelli, a former classroom teacher with a Masters of Science in Soil Science to learn how to make gardening a fun and easy family affair.  Gardening with children is a great way to foster love of the outdoors and more veggie-eating in children.

Rachel will guide you through the most essential parts of a productive garden and how you can take shortcuts and still have a good harvest your whole family can enjoy. At the end of the talk, parents and children will plant seeds to take home to start their own garden.

This event is free and open to all ages. Sponsored by the Friends of the South Buncombe Library.

Annual Stamp Out Hunger Letter Carriers’ Food Drive

Each year, letter carriers across the country head out on their routes on the second Saturday in May to collect donations of non-perishable food items to benefit local food pantries. Since launching in 1993, the National Association of Letter Carriers’ annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has grown into the nation’s largest one-day food drive, helping to fill the shelves of food banks in cities and towns throughout the United States.

The need is great, but you can help. They invite you to join letter carriers and their partner organizations in the fight to end hunger in their communities by participating in the annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

Simply leave your donation of non-perishable food in a bag near your mailbox on the second Saturday in May, and your letter carrier will do the rest.
