Altapass Orchard: Altapass Orchard Trail Guided Hike

The 105-year-old Altapass apple orchard turned into Appalachian Cultural Center celebrates the people, music, art and natural beauty of the Blue Ridge mountains in North Carolina. Led by Thrifty Adventures with a certified yoga instructor, your yoga adventure will begin with a mindful walk along the gently graded loop trail that weaves between the orchard’s many apple trees. At halfway, you will join together for some breathing work and intention setting, and you’ll finish the hike at a pavilion overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains. Your yoga instructor will then guide the group through a gentle and stimulating hatha yoga practice.

Parking Info:  Meet at the pavilion located at 1025 Orchard Rd, Spruce Pine, NC 28777. The Orchard is right off the Blue Ridge Parkway milepost 328.3. You can access the parkway across from the Museum Of NC Minerals in Spruce Pine. You will take a left off the Parkway and the Orchard is only a couple miles down on the right!

Jeff Robbins: Mountain Music, Stories and Dance

Mountain Music, Stories and Dance” is an upbeat, participatory, educational and tried & true performance of Appalachian mountain music.  Most of the instruments Jeff plays were handmade by he and his father…mandolin, fiddles, dulcimer, several banjos and a unique instrument called a, “One String Pork-n-Bean” guitar.  This show transcends any other short courses in traditional American music.

Vacation Bible School

Hello Everyone! VBS for the Mills River SDA Church will be from 6/ 18 – 6//22 from 6 to 8 in the evening. It will be a lot of fun and a meal will be served for the children. On June 23rd we will have a fun day from 1-4. Registration day for VBS will take place at the church on June 6 from 6 – 8pm. Tacos and Wolfdogs – A fundraiser for Full Moon Farm

Come join us for some family fun! We’ll be offering a delicious taco dinner with all the fixins (vegetarian option included). We’ll have a farm tour, stuffie toss (toys for the wolfdogs!), live music, a 50/50 raffle and a salsa contest!

Full Moon Farm is a 501c3 nonprofit, all proceeds go directly to the care of our 60+ resident wolfdogs.

Deadline is June 20th. We can only accomodate 50 people so get your tickets fast!

There will be a panel of three judges and a special gift basket will be awarded to the winner of each category. Entry fee $15 (pay at the event). Set up begins at 3pm and the contest will be held at 5pm. Bring your own ingredients, they must be assembled at the farm.

FREE Intermediate Chess Lesson with Chess Master Mike Klein

June 17th … Mastered the basics of chess but want to level up your game? Join Chess Master Mike Klein for an intermediate learning session.  The lesson will be from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm. Then at 6:00 Mike will take on all challengers in a Beat the Master Blitz Challenge.

A little about Mike: Past NC Champion. 5-time NC High School Champion. Former national scholastic champion. Chess Coach for 20 years. Owner of Young Master Chess and Director of Content for Chess.com

After the lesson, if you can beat Mike, you win a prize. That simple.
