Hobey Ford’s Golden Rod Puppets Present “Migration” (5+yrs)

Free ticket required. Please pick up your free ticket at the library beginning June 1.

Hobey Ford and his Golden Rod puppets explore the wonders of migration through the story of a Mexican girl named Beatriz and her migration to the United States juxtaposed with the stories of other animals that migrate; Monarch Butterflies, polar bears, the Godwit bird and the Sperm Whale. To take the audience along the journey of these amazing creatures, realistic puppets perform behind a thin circular scrim onto which is projected Hobey’s original artwork.  Hobey performs in full view in his role as storyteller and puppeteer creating a seamless and gorgeous production with a touching story of hope and change. The show will be followed by a question and answer session with Hobey and his puppets. Age 5 & up.

WCU Roadworks School of Music: The Catamount Singers and Electric Soul

WCU Roadworks, School of Music performing ensemble will present The Catamount Singers and Electric Soul. “Living The Dream.” This free show consists mostly of energetic modern pop tunes, Jazz standards, and classic rock, all complete with impressive choreography. It will feature each of the singers, along with brief narrations about the School of Music and the arts at WCU.

Pollinator Walk with Roselie Estey

June is Pollinator Month. To celebrate our pollinators, the Park at Flat Rock will be offering two Nature Walks in June that identify Pollinator Plants and Pollinators. Naturalist, Roselie Estey will lead walks in the park on Thursday, June 15 and Saturday, June 24. The walks will start at the park pavilion at 9:00 AM and are free to the public. Children must be accompanied by an adult. No pets please.

Vacation Bible School

VBS will take place July 17-21.

Supper will be served each night from 6:00-6:30pm. Monday (Hot Dogs), Tuesday (Tacos), Wednesday (Hamburgers), Thursday (Spaghetti), Friday (Pizza). We will march in from the front steps of the church at 6:45pm. Come join us as we learn about God’s Love!

AMS Summer Camp (4-18yrs)

JUNE 19-23: JAZZ CAMP W/ JASON MOORE

  • Ages 10-18
  • Time: 9:00am-4:00pm
  • Cost: $335
  • Intermediate-advanced skill levels

Students will play Big Band arrangements, learn to play improvised solos, and learn about Jazz history, in a team-oriented, fun, and supportive ensemble environment. Price includes recording experience and showcase performance. Placement audition or interview required for teachers to assess students’ abilities.

 

JUNE 26-30: ROCK BAND CAMP W/ ALEC FEHL – FULL

  • Ages 9-18
  • Time: 9:00am-4:00pm
  • Cost: $335
  • Intermediate beginners welcome

THIS CAMP IS CURRENTLY FULL.

Come learn more than just how to play songs, learn how to play in a band! Students will gain confidence and leadership skills through making their own arrangements of classic and modern rock tunes. Previous summer rock bands have performed songs by The White Stripes, Pink Floyd, The Clash, Green Day, and The Rolling Stones. Campers will perform and rehearse in one large ensemble, with breakout sessions for both instrumentalists and vocalists. Outside of rehearsal time, students go on field trips, participate in a recording session, and learn about the history of rock ‘n’ roll, culminating in a trivia game with prizes! he students will perform a final concert for family and friends. To fully enjoy this camp week, we suggest students have at least 1-2 years of previous music lessons and/or ensemble experience.

 

JULY 10-14: PRE-TEEN POP ROCK CAMP W/ ANDY JOHN & KYLIE BROWN

  • Ages 9-13
  • Time: 9:00am-4:00pm
  • Cost: $335
  • Beginners welcome

This camp is ideal for younger students, beginners, and those who may need a little extra guidance through individual and small group instruction. Kylie Brown and Andy John are experienced as classroom teachers and music instructors, and will ensure students have fun while learning a lot! Campers will perform in both small groups and large groups, and learn 2-3 songs throughout the week. Previous concerts included songs by The Beatles, Jason Mraz, Katy Perry, and Coldplay. Outside of the rehearsal room, students will enjoy inside and outside games, t-shirt decorating, instrument-making, and field trips. Previous field trips included Moog and Echo Mountain Studios. Additionally, campers can learn a new instrument during our electives period.  The week will culminate in a recording session and a concert for family and friends.

 

JULY 17-21: MUSIC EXPLORATIONS CAMP W/ HILLARY TRUMPLER

  • Ages: 4-6
  • Time: 9:00am-12:00pm
  • Cost: $175
  • Beginners welcome

Music Explorations is a great way for young beginners to explore music, sound, rhythm, and various instruments in a fun and encouraging group setting. We will be taking a journey around the world to discover the music of diverse cultures and regions. Children will get to dance and move, experiment with various instruments, sing tunes, and experiment with their own music-making. Music Explorations is led by instructors with vast experience in early childhood music education, including Kindermusik, and will encourage social skills and group interactions, develop aural and visual skills, and foster a love of music in your child.

 

JULY 24-28: SUZUKI STRINGS CAMP W/ HOLLEY ROSS & PAUL STROEBEL … THEME: MUSIC AROUND THE WORLD

  • Ages 5 and up, beginners welcome
  • Time: 9:00am-4:00pm
  • Cost: $335
  • Beginners welcome

Come join in on the magic, music and merriment of Hogwarts camp of Violin and Musicality. We will have wand practice, a Quidditch game, a trip to Moog’s museum of magical musical manipulations, as well as plenty of music making.

Learn violin, viola, and cello, through the Suzuki Method. No placement audition required. Price includes showcase performance.

 

JULY 31-AUG. 4: TEEN POP ROCK CAMP W/ GABRIELLE TEE & ANDY JOHN … THEME: HARRY POTTER

  • Ages 12-18
  • Time: 9:00am-4:00pm
  • Cost: $335
  • Intermediate-advanced skill levels

5/11 UPDATE: This camp is full.

This camp week is ideal for students who are in junior high and high school and enjoy a more challenging environment. Students typically learn and perform 4-5 songs in just one week! Previous concerts included songs by The Avett Brothers, Twenty-One Pilots, Bob Marley, and Vance Joy. Campers will be placed in bands with 4-6 peers of similar skill level and musical taste. Outside of the rehearsal room, students hang out during lunch and rec time, make t-shirts, write original songs, and travel to local music studios like Moog and Echo Mountain. Additionally, campers can learn a new instrument during our electives period.  The camp week will culminate in a recording session and a concert for family and friends.  To fully enjoy this camp week, we suggest students have at least 1-2 years of previous music lessons and/or ensemble experience.

 

AUG. 7-AUG. 11: CHAMBER ENSEMBLE CAMP W/ ISABEL CASTELLVI & PAUL STROEBEL

  • Ages 7 and up
  • Time: 9:00am-4:00pm
  • Cost: $335
  • Intermediate beginners welcome

All skill levels are welcome. Campers will be split up into groups, as necessary, based on age and/or skill level. Students will learn and perform different styles of chamber music in a team-oriented, fun, and supportive ensemble environment. Placement audition or interview required for teachers to assess students’ abilities. Students will be placed in ensembles based on skill level. Call to schedule audition appointment. Price includes recording experience, field trip, and showcase performance.

introducing their new fire engine into the fleet which has been a fire service tradition dating back to the 1800’s.

  • FIREFIGHTERS WILL PUSH THE NEW FIRE ENGINE INTO THE BAY OFFICIALLY PLACING IT IN SERVICE

Station tours and Viewing of the new fire engine will be held following the ceremony.
