Junior League of Asheville’s ChildWatch Tour

The Junior League of Asheville’s 2017 ChildWatch Tour will be held April 28 from 1:00 to 4:00 at Trinity Episcopal Church. This year’s tour will focus on women and children facing homelessness and the resources our community can provide to help.

The ChildWatch Tour was started by the Junior League of Asheville in 1998. It is an event designed to highlight issues of poverty and other challenges afflicting local children. Community leaders and the public are invited to listen, explore and act in order to bring awareness that will lead to change.

Space is limited to 40 attendees. Tickets are available for purchase through EventBrite. Get your tickets today!

FREE Talk for Parents: ‘Lizards, Monkeys, & Humans: Understanding Our Three Brains’

Are you aware that each of us—adult and child—has three brains? (The reptile brain, the mammal brain, and the human brain.) And each of these brains has a different function. By learning about the how the three brains work (and how they can interfere with each other), you’ll be able to connect more readily with your child and, then, communicate more effectively. This free 90-minute talk is enlivening, interactive, and straightforward. The goal is to give you greater understanding and practical tools that enhance your relationship with your child. Space is limited, and registration is required.

Free — Registration RequiredCourse taught and designed by parent coach, Shonnie Lavender. A certified Simplicity Parenting Coach, contributor to Huffington Post and Elephant Journal, Shonnie works with families worldwide to create connected, respectful, and thriving families by eliminating fear-based parenting methods still commonly in use today.

Glow in the Dark Easter Egg Hunt (up to 5th Grade)

It’s that time of the year for our second annual Glow In The Dark Easter Egg Hunt at our Haywood Campus on Saturday, March 24th for children up to 5th grade! This event will begin at 5:30pm with a FREE meal followed by age-appropriate egg hunts at 6:45pm.

This event was very successful last year thanks to your prayers and support. We are very excited to do this event once again this year and we are expecting another great success. Please invite your friends and family to attend this one-of-a-kind Easter Egg Hunt.

If you have any questions or are interested in volunteering for this event, please email Austin Hilbish at ahilbish@lakehillslife.com or please call the church office at 828-456-5813.

One way you can support this event is by providing candy which you can drop off at any of the children’s sign-in stations.

Summer Camp (3-6yrs)

Monday-Friday, 9:00am-1:00pm

Week 1: June 19-23

Week 2: June 26-30

Week 3: July 3-7

Week 4: July 10-14

Week 5: July 17-21

Week 6: July 24-28

Week 7: July 31-August 4

Week 8: August 7-11

Each day is a discovery of movement, sport, song, dance, and seasonal crafts based on what we learn each day. Dress appropriately for indoor and outdoor activities, which will include all of your child’s favorite Playball games and sports like football, soccer, cricket, rugby, field hockey, plus relay races, coordination games, and obstacle courses. Indoor games are held in our large recreation hall and bring out the tennis player, volleyball player, and basketball star in us all!

An average day at camp:

Arrive at 9:00 and start a warm up and a Playball lesson for 45 minutes with water breaks in between. This is like a regular class at school.

We break at 10:00 for a snack, a story, some music and free-play time. They can free play on the playground or in the classroom for 15 minutes after that.

From 10:45-11:30 we do another 45 minute Playball lesson, learning a few tips on sportsmanship, team work, new vocabulary, techniques, and imagery.

From 11:30-12:00 we do a little craft to take home that day.

12:00-12:45 is lunch and free-play with the Playball equipment. I like to let the children explore, manipulate, make obstacle courses, and use what they have learned as we supervise them.

12:45-1:00 we wrap up with a final game or two, sporty stamps, and the Playball cheer!
