Spring Break Camp (Ages 3-6 & Grades 1-5)

Join us as we explore, create and play together all week long!  We have two camps, ages 3-6 and grades 1-5, this spring break!  We also have an extended day option.  To register please scroll down to the REGISTRATION section at the link above.  If a camp is full it will be noted.

AGES 3-6 / 9AM – 1PM
$165

Our littlest makers will be creating instruments and visual art works inspired by a variety of musical genres – all related to the Carnival season that it is!  They will explore drawing, painting, sculpture and beyond!

GRADES 1-5 / 8:30AM – 1:30PM
$175

Our older makers will be creating fanciful designs inspired by the Carnival traditions of South America and the American South.  They will work in multiple mediums as well, developing themed designs of visual works, costumes, sets and more!

Both camps will combine for an end of the week celebration on FRIDAY, April 14 at 1:00pm!

For our future- Asheville kids’ protest

My kids, Kale and Asha, had the idea to hold a kids protest here in Asheville to express their opposition to the current administration and their support for many things, like good education, a clean environment, racial equality, welcoming refugees and immigrants, girls and womens equal rights, healthcare, care for differently abled, and rights for LGBTQ folks. We would like to invite y’all to join our family in standing up for our beliefs, and making a statement to the world that we do not agree with what is happening in our government. This will be a peaceful gathering, hopefully with lots of joy. Hope to see you there!

Gathering to Write Postcards to our Senators!

Now that we have voiced our concerns at our amazing march on Asheville, our next step is to make some calls and write postcards to our Senators about what matters most to us – and how we’re going to continue to fight for it in the days, weeks and months ahead!
Let’s do that together at the BLOCK-off-Biltmore this Saturday from 5:30PM to 7PM.
We will have some postcards and stamps available. We encourage you to bring your own if you can!
HOW TO PREPARE:
1) You can print the postcards here before coming to the gathering:  https://www.womensmarch.com/ Postcard shipping rate is 34 cents.
2) Think about what issue(s) is/are important to you (healthcare, women’s rights and decisions regarding their own reproductive destinies, immigration law, etc.) You don’t need to stay the entire time. Drop by and write for a few minutes. See you then!

Walkable Wall Street Series

Walkable Wall Street is a collaborative series between the City of Asheville, Wall Street merchants and Asheville Downtown Association designed to support place-making downtown and improve pedestrian safety.

Businesses will offer extended hours, and will line the corridor with (battery-powered) luminaries to provide an inviting and romantic setting near Valentine’s Day for strolling to shops and restaurants. The luminaries will feature merchant and community decorated bags. Stop by Wall Street shops any time Saturday to decorate your own bag, following the theme of love, light and community.

Stuart Cowles, owner of longtime Wall Street business Climbmax Climbing said the event is “a great opportunity to discover and rediscover one of downtown Asheville’s most iconic streets, and for businesses to engage with the community in a unique way.”

The event celebrates Wall Street as a pedestrian-friendly corridor, while supporting its businesses and providing a safe, enjoyable community-oriented experience downtown. The series serves as a pilot for consideration of regular and more frequent (though temporary) closures of streets to car traffic.

Future Walkable Wall Street events are planned on the following Saturdays:

  • Saturday, May 13
  • Saturday, August 12
