Join us as we learn about how to help scientists study birds at your library and in your own neighborhood! We’ll learn how to recognize some common birds and how you can use colors, sizes, flight patterns and more to identify the wide variety of birds that call our area home. All participants get a free pair of ecoEXPLORE binoculars and learn how to earn badges and prizes by becoming an ecoEXPLORER. For all ages.

Youth Circus Class (5-12yrs)
Offered on Tuesdays @ 5:15pm and Saturdays @ 2:15pm
This 60 minute class is the perfect introduction to circus arts for the younger folks aged 5 to 12. Students will develop better body awareness, coordination, strength, flexibility, and self esteem in a fun, safe, and supportive movement environment. Classes will start with a floor based warm up, followed by learning new movements on both the ground and in the air on aerial apparatuses. The last part of class will be supervised playtime for students to have fun and explore on both the ground and in the air. All levels welcome, no experience required.
– 1 Drop-In Group Class – $20 with no expiration date
– 1 Express Class (30 minutes conditioning class) – $6 with a 30 day expiration date
– 4 Class Package – $70 with no expiration date [$17.50 per class]

Author Event: Kevin Wilson with Perfect Little Worl

Wilson’s much anticipated new novel, Perfect Little World is the follow-up to his New York Times bestselling debut novel, The Family Fang. Wilson offers another offbeat look at the meaning of family, this time through the lens of a resilient young mother living life on her own terms—and a strange utopian experiment that could redefine what family means. Library Journal says Perfect Little World is a “moving novel about love, parenting, and the families we create for ourselves.” His fiction has appeared in Ploughshares, Tin House, One Story, and elsewhere. Kids Dance Extras Audition for La Boutique Fantasque (The Enchanted Toy Shop) Ballet
Love to dance? Love to perform? Any style dancer/performer, ages 7-12years, are invited to audition as Extras. To learn and perform alongside the Protégés of River Arts Ballet in “La Boutique Fantasque” The Enchanted Toy Shop.
Must be available to rehearse Saturdays 3:30-4:30 Starting January 14th with 2 performances at Blue Ridge Community College Friday May 26th, 6pm & Saturday May 27th, 2pm.
Audition is a basic Ballet warm up then choreography to see what unique talents and movement quality may be cast in this production.
Upon accepting cast roles, one time performance/costuming fee of $50 will be due on January 7th, 2017
Wear comfortable clothing you can move best in. Be 10min early to sign in, have photograph taken, and receive an audition number…open audition is FREE
