There is no better way to start off a new year than with a hike at Lake James. Meet Park Ranger Jamie Cameron for what has become a cherished holiday tradition at Lake James State Park – the First Day Hike. Whether you’re interested in starting a resolution of fitness, nature appreciation or learning about the environment, make a visit to Lake James State Park part of your family’s holiday tradition. The hike will start at the Paddy’s Creek Area bathhouse breezeway at 10 a.m. Bring warm clothing and be prepared to walk two miles.
Start the New Year with a hike! A Park Ranger will lead you on the 3/4 mile Balsam Nature Loop Trail at the top of Mount Mitchell, and discus the Park’s natural and cultural history. Dress appropriately for severe winter weather!
There will be childcare available for birth – age 4. Older children are encouraged to sit with their parents in service.

It will be the perfect time to meet each of our elementary school principals, hear a brief description about what makes our schools so special and learn more about the enrollment process.
Plus, thanks to our Transportation Staff, we’ll be offering FREE bus rides both to and from the Information Night.
Any student, parent, guardian or sibling will be able to ride at no charge!
Two buses from the Emma Bus Line will be making their way around Downtown Asheville, Merrimon/North Asheville, Montford, Kenilworth and West Asheville beginning at 5:00 PM.
You’ll know it’s the correct bus because it’ll say “Asheville City School Magnet Information Night” in the window.
Additionally, did you know FREE childcare is being provided tomorrow evening as well? This will allow you to visit each rotation knowing your child is having fun, receiving a snack and begin well taken care of.

Come to this great Meet Up especially geared to nursing Toddlers and their families. La Leche League is a non profit organization offering information, support and encouragement for all breastfeeding families. Our meet ups are free. The topic for Thursday is sleep. What’s normal? Can you get more? How are other parents coping? Come along and feel welcome to bring any non separating children.
Each year around this time we invite anyone and everyone to don their PJs and join us for a night of seasonal singing and fun. Entertainment and caroling will be lead by director Chris Martin, and Spellbound Children’s Bookshop. This is always one of our favorite family events and a great way for all of us to dive into the holiday spirit 🙂
