You’re also encouraged to bust out your own moves. 🙂
And if dancing’s not your thing, just come out to support and have fun!

Capoeira Angola Drop-In Class (all ages)

Fridays 10:00am – Capoeira Angola with Emily Fader at Kasumi Mountain Martial Arts in Asheville!

“Capoeira is a martial art and game. It’s playful and involves music and movement. It’s from Brazil via Angola brought by enslaved Africans to fight for freedom. It’s a beautiful dance and playful non violent martial art. It is wonderful for creative expression, body awareness, musical skills and exposure to foreign language since the simple melodies are in Brazilian Portuguese.”

Drop-In. $5-$10/Sliding Scale. For more information, call 828-713-9149

There are 40 works of art by talented local middle school students hanging in UNC Asheville Highsmith Art & Intercultural Gallery for the month of July.

UNC Asheville is proud to celebrate youth for their artistic expression through paintings and other art forms. Each year, works of art from area middle school students are showcased in Highsmith Union for the month of July, culminating in an Open House event hosted by Chancellor Mary K. Grant where we will honor student artists and hear from local leaders in education.

Student artwork will be displayed in UNC Asheville’s Highsmith Art & Intercultural Gallery throughout July 2016. The gallery will be open for viewings Monday – Friday from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

After Hours Hike: “Game On”

We know you have animal questions! Questions like “How can so many deer live around our neighborhoods?” “How did the turkey get his beard?” We’ll be talking about how urban development and fragmentation impact wildlife, what to look for if you think you have game animals near you, and find out how the deer got his antlers. Join us for an easy-to-moderate hike, approximately 2 miles round-trip.

Meet at the dirt pull offs at Milepost 389.5, just south of the Hendersonville Road (Hwy 25) exit. Wear long pants (against the poison ivy), good hiking shoes, bring some water, and be prepared for changeable weather.

Call (828) 298-5330, extension 304 for more information.
