The Big Latch On of Asheville 2018

The Global Big Latch On takes place at registered locations around the world, where women gather together to breastfeed simultaneously and to offer peer support to each other. Their friends, family and community join this celebration to promote and support breastfeeding. Volunteers from within the community host each location. Hosting a Global Big Latch On creates a lasting support network for the community.

Learn more about the Global Big Latch On: http://biglatchon.org/about/

Kith & Kin Olympic Day Event

JULY 6th FUN!!!! Kith and Kin will be on the fairgrounds instead of the library! Everybody is welcome so come on out for the Madison County Library celebration!

As part of the Madison County Public Library’s Summer Reading Program, we have scheduled an Olympic Day event at the Madison County Fairgrounds on Wednesday, July 6, from 10 am to 1 pm. We will offer an area designed especially for children birth to five years old. In addition to a small “bounce house” and small waterslide, we will be offering additional activities including some outdoor messy fun: painting, paper mulch “mud” kitchen, and also a quiet/cozy area for just chilling out. Smart Start/MCPFC&F, Rosie from Kith & Kin, and CDSA folks will be on-site and ready to play.

TUXEDO: 50th Annual Fireworks Display 2025

Roscoe’s Marathon Station in Tuxedo (near Zirconia) … If you haven’t been, these are some of the best in the area, and well worth the short drive. They put on an amazing show every year, and shoot them off from the mountain behind the station, making them feel like they’re right above your head! It’s an all day party, so get there early and tailgate. Fireworks shot off at dark.

Food trucks will be onsite.

“Please be mindful that we are a growing community. Our goal is to provide a fun, family friendly and safe experience for everyone to enjoy. It is our pleasure to open our doors and welcome everyone. Shooting personal fireworks, use of alcohol and drugs are not permitted on or around premises. Be respectful and considerate of those around you and clean up after yourselves.”

Winged Creatures of the Night

“Bats eat bugs, they don’t eat people.”

Our annual Winged Creatures event is an evening to enjoy the Cradle at twilight. This program highlights nocturnal winged creatures such as owls, moths, and bats. Gates open at 6:30.

Beginning in the outdoor amphitheater, our Cradle educators will entertain with a short play, “The Gathering of the Winged Creatures.” This will be followed by a live animal program and short walk where participants can interact more with the characters from the play to practice owl calls, learn how researchers study bat populations, and search for moths at a moth attractant station.

An evening of family fun at the Cradle of Forestry!
