Being a Ballerina

Author Visit and Mini-Performance with professional dancer Gavin Larsen!

Inspiring, revealing, and deeply relatable, Being a Ballerina is a first-hand look at the realities of life as a professional ballet dancer. Through episodes of her own career, Gavin Larsen describes the forces that drive a person to study dance; the daily balance that dancers navigate between hardship and joy; and the dancer’s continual quest to discover who they are as a person and as an artist.

Join us for this very special event as we welcome author and dancer Gavin Larsen for readings from her book Being a Ballerina: The Power and Perfection of a Dancing Life. In addition to the reading, the audience will also be treated to a performance of excerpts from the ballet Giselle.

This program is for an audience of all ages, and Malaprops will be on hand to sell copies of Larsen’s book after the event is over.

20th Anniversary Family Fun Celebration (FREE!)

Join us as we celebrate 20 years of Black Mountain Montessori!

All families of the greater Asheville area are welcome to attend and to invite others who are interested in a FREE and fun family event.

There will be snacks & birthday cake, face painting, a magician, a photo booth, and so much more!

Raffle prizes from local businesses. Shop Local 😉

Our classrooms will be open for self-guided tours and our Montessori professionals will be around to answer any questions you may have.

Flavor Fest

Join us Saturday, April 22 from 11-2 for our Spring Flavor Fest! Chef Paul will be grilling 4 different flavors of chicken wings for you to sample from a Traeger grill! This is an event you don’t want to miss!

Read & Roll

Join Key Autism Services at the Waynesville Rec Center for this free Roll and Read event hosted by Region A Partnership for Children!

This event will focus on three important goals for families- early literacy, physical well-being, and resources within the community. Additionally, trained staff will be on hand to discuss child development and answer other related questions parents may have. There will be booths and reading stations for the kids, bounce houses, free prizes, refreshments, family resources, and games!

Zoe’s Treehouse: Story Parlor’s Monthly Kid Series

Come play in Zoe’s Treehouse! Meet Zoe, a helper from our community, and a special musical guest! It’s Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood meets Sesame Street in this high-energy, interactive storytelling event!

Coffee, beverages, and light snacks will be available

Technically every third Saturday, but they will be take a pause during the summer months, with no program in June, July, or August.

Zoe Zelonky is a theatre teacher, loud singer, and cookie fan! New to Asheville, she’s lived and taught theatre to kids in California, Tennessee, and Missouri. Zoe has performed in many musicals and is the Education Director at Asheville Community Theatre. Zoe is grateful for her family, her dog, and the ability to share stories with all of you!

OUR FAVORITE SELF GUIDED TOURS

Asheville is an amazing city with so much to see and do, and while we have some amazing group tour companies, sometimes we want to venture out on our own to learn about the culture and history of our area … with just our family, on our schedule and timetable, to explore our interests, on our own path. A great way to do that, and a great way to save some money (THESE ARE ALL FREE), is to take one of the many self-guided tours that have been created by our local experts at our tourism centers, and historic sites. We’ve compiled the list attached of some of our favorites for you, with links to them all, that we hope you will enjoy and learn as much from as we did and still do. If we’re missing any of your favorites, let us know, so that we can share them, too!

Visit Area Museums and Attractions for FREE with a ZOOM Pass (Transylvania Co. Library Cardholders)

The Transylvania County Public Library has teamed up with local attractions and museums to offer FREE ADMISSION for library card holders with a ZOOM pass! Reservations can be made between 5 and 30 days in advance. Your household may visit one attraction every 30 days. Check the pass details to see how many adults and children gain entry with each pass.
