Intergenerational Storytelling in the Garden w/ Karen Washington

On Thursday, March 8th from 2-6pm at the Southside Garden we will be hosting “Intergenerational Storytelling in the Garden” with special guest Karen Washington, a cooperative farmer with Rise and Root Farm in New York. This is a free community event, so bring the kids, enjoy locally sourced and prepared fare, and share and listen to community and family stories of food and growing. Learn from each other about how our histories and urban policies have impacted the experience of growing food in our community.

There will be community discussion and activities for young children from 2-4pm, refreshments will be served at 4pm, and from 4-6pm all ages will be engaged in storytelling, dialogue, and creative activities.

In the event of inclement weather we will hold the event at the Arthur R. Edington Center (next to the Southside Garden) in the Community Room.

From Karen’s page at riseandrootfarm.com, “As a community gardener and board member of the New York Botanical Gardens, Karen worked with Bronx neighborhoods to turn empty lots into community gardens. As an advocate, she stood up and spoken out for garden protection and preservation.” Karen will be the featured guest speaker at the Organic Growers School Spring Conference, and we are excited to partner with OGS to bring Karen here for this workshop.
