Camp STAR, now in its 25th year, is dedicated to the youth of Henderson County. School Resource Deputies and teen counselors join forces to mentor and develop friendships with rising 6th graders over five, 3-day sessions, offered free of charge to the attendees.
Activities include fishing, hiking, swimming at Lake Lure, a visit to Downtown Hendersonville, a tour of the Henderson County Courthouse, a community service project and a pool party at the Elks Lodge to celebrate each successful session. Camp STAR is a wonderful way to connect with our youth and to reiterate the importance of leadership skills, anti-bullying and the dangers of addiction, all of which they learn in the seven-week STAR program brought to our elementary schools by our Deputies.

Hidden Figures Story Time (4-8yrs)
Join us for a story time featuring the new picture book for ages 4 to 8 telling the story of four African American women who made history helping get Americans into space. This inspiring true story was made into a bestselling book for adults and an award-winning movie and uncovered a fascinating piece of history that had been previously untold due to its classified nature.
We’ll follow up the book reading with a fun craft that’s also a great STEM activity.
We’ll make straw rockets. Launch them with your breath and watch them fly! Take them home and keep experimenting: how does the angle affect the distance it flies?
This book and activity are best for ages 4 to 8 years old, though younger siblings are welcome to come along.
