Asheville Family Adventure Fest

Get ready Asheville for our first Asheville Family Adventure Fest as we celebrate two things that make Asheville the great place it is. It’s time to celebrate Family & Adventure TOGETHER………Asheville style.

This quick afternoon burst of activity & fun is perfect for young and old. The aptly named Adventure Center of Asheville will be the festival host site with event production help from our friends at Asheville Plays (Another aptly named and fabulous local family business!) Think Spring Festival but overflowing with adventure activities for all ages!! Soooo, pack up the car, hop on a bike, lace up those hiking shoes, launch that kayak, strap on the waders (or however you get around!) AND don’t forget the kids for an afternoon at Asheville Family Adventure Fest. 100% of proceeds go to support Camp Lakey Gap Autism Programs!

 

Harmonies of Hope: A Concert to Feed Hendersonville, featuring Molasses Creek

Music begins at 12:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary Garden Chapel

Molasses Creek, of Ocracoke Island, NC, known for their high-energy performances, will take the outdoor stage at 12:30 p.m. Come and enjoy their elegant arrangements of folk, traditional, bluegrass, originals, and covers. We’ll have food trucks and activities for the young and young at heart in the adjacent parking lots.

All proceeds benefit the Hendersonville Rescue Mission, Interfaith Assistance Ministries, and The Storehouse.

Wildflowers and Wellness

Introducing Wildflowers and Wellness! A free outdoor event in front of Reuter Family YMCA on Saturday, May 11th, from 1-5 PM.

Enjoy free classes from Reuter Family YMCA, REI, and Club Pilates instructors, peruse informational booths, shop for fresh-cut flowers from Black Dog Flowers and Posy On Wheels, and participate in family-friendly activities and giveaways.

Fire on the Mountain Blacksmithing Festival

Join blacksmiths and blacksmithing enthusiasts in Spruce Pine, NC on Saturday, April 27th for this annual festival celebrating the art of the blacksmith. Coordinated by Spruce Pine Main Street, Penland School of Craft, Toe River Arts, Haywood Community College, Arthur Morgan School, and local smiths, the festival gets bigger and better every year! Coming for the day is great, but coming for the weekend is even better! Festival events on Friday and Saturday, food, hiking and exploring make a great long weekend.

Oakley Annual Block Party

Join us at Oakley Elementary’s Annual Block Party on April 19th from 5-8 PM as we celebrate over 101 years of learning and community spirit! Enjoy a fun-filled evening with activities, vendors, food trucks, Oakley history, and more. This event is open to our entire community—let’s make memories together!

Bountiful Bowls

Please RSVP to enjoy free soup and/or salad, purchase tickets to cooking classes and purchase handmade ceramic bowls.

On Sunday April 21st 1-5pm UNCA’s Health and Wellness Department and the Student Environmental Center will host Bountiful Bowls, an Earth Day and Food Waste Reduction Month event and fundraiser to benefit Bountiful Cities.

This FREE event is open to all. Community members and students are invited to come and celebrate outside the Sherrill Center at UNCA where they can enjoy some “stone soup.” Participants are encouraged to bring a vegetable or pantry item that can be part of the stone soup. We will celebrate Food Waste Reduction month using donated up-cycled produce to make the soup and a Panzanella Salad for attendees. Firefly Valley Pottery will lead participants in a hands-on experience with clay, and participants can take hand built pots with them. The Student Environmental Center will lead Earth Day activities and share information about sustainability.

Participants can purchase beautiful ceramic hand-made bowls (on a sliding scale) to support Bountiful Cities work, then fill it with soup or salad!

Tickets ($25 each) are also on sale for cooking classes with Plant-Based Nutrition Expert and Professor Amy Joy Lanou in the Teaching Kitchen at the Sherill Center at UNCA. Lanou will explore techniques to reduce food waste and cook delicious dishes with fresh and local produce. You can purchase a ticket to the cooking class and add on a ceramic bowl for $40.

Thanks also to UNCA Ceramics department, AB Tech Ceramics department, Asheville High School Ceramics department, and many local ceramic artists for donating bowls for this event. And thanks to the Food Equity Initiative at UNCA for donating supplies.

Please RSVP, purchase bowls and tickets today! You may choose your bowl on a first come first served basis on the day of the event. If we don’t sell out, bowls will be available for purchase on the day of the event and pick up at one of our up coming events.

All-County K-8 Art Show

Art teachers from Buncombe County Schools transformed the Asheville Mall into a gallery for the All-County K-8 Art Show. You can see the pieces on display through May 4.

3RD Annual Slow Down Move Over NC Car Show

Spectators are free to enjoy all activities! Free face painting, Carolina Cloggers, Jackie the dancing DJ, WNC Flashmob, Hit the Pit Bbcue food truck, Glazed & Infused donuts will be on location for breakfast, Frozen Josie’s icecream truck, 50/50, door prizes, silent auction, fire trucks, police cars,and SDMO merchandise from Krafty Kreations!
